Mastering Your Present Moment - 2008 | Print |  E-mail

Here's a resource that I think is wonderful for helping focus, maintain and support your career and life goals consistently over 15 weeks.  It's very unusual...but also powerful, especially because it keeps providing opportunities for you to create intentions and handle issues that come up in fufilling them.  I share it with you because it's something that has supported me over the years, and it feels like a good fit with the way I work and coach.

Obtaining Online Inner Peace

An Article By Karen Schaffer

Who hasn’t wished at some point that life could change for the better without having to work too hard at it?

Carolyn Winter of the Long Distance Healing website “Light Travels” at www.lighttravels.com, knows how you can.  Using something called Resonance Repatterning© she combines energy work and technology to offer a long distance healing program online.  It’s called the Mastering My Present Moment Program and it benefits participants in both subtle and obvious ways.

“It’s difficult to articulate but you’ll know it in your bones you’re different” says Pilates and Yoga instructor Sheila Cameron.  “It’s experiential work.  I had to trust my friend who introduced me to it – I surrendered my disbelief and went with it…I realized after awhile that the course kept bringing me to a place of introspection and I had more awareness in looking at myself”.

Using the principles and framework developed by Chloe Wordsworth, The Resonance Repatterning© System is a method that allows a practitioner to “tap in” to a client’s energy system using a form of muscle checking, based on kinesiology.  This system is a practical way to access the principles of quantum physics and energy frequencies to create change.  The practitioner can act as the proxy for a whole group, with the goal of getting the group resonating with the intentions that are highest and best for all.

The process of muscle checking through various areas leads the practitioner directly to the issues that are blocking the desired intentions.  It also directs the practitioner to the myriad of healing modalities which will clear it.  “I like to think of myself as someone who helps you figure out what is wrong with your system, much like a computer virus, and fix it so you can be at your optimal performance” say Ms. Winter.

Ms. Winter structured her “Mastering My Present Moment Program” - or as it’s affectionately known, MPMP - around another popular spiritual concept, that of the chakra system.  Mostly associated with yoga practice, chakras are the invisible energy centers that circle the body.  There are seven in all, starting from the root and leading up to the crown and each chakra is connected to a particular theme or area of our life.  Wil Gustin, a Toronto-based intuitive counselor with a psychotherapy background thinks it works well for beginners to energy work.  “It’s a simple map of human consciousness that’s easy to pick up even if they don’t understand energy work as a whole…it’s a way to look at your life step by step, and at the challenges and intentions at each step”.

What Facebook and The Secret Have In Common - Thursday, April 19, 2007 | Print |  E-mail

If you would like to watch my appearances on the TV show "Workopolis"  - a wonderful show all about careers and work hosted by Bruce Sellery, please go to http://www.bnn.ca/articles/rob.tv/205/workopolis.html

You'll see a section that says "Workopolis TV Tool Kit".  From there, you can either click "view all" under Careers and find my three segments (they're not in order but they're all there!) or you could also scroll down further until you see "Full Shows".  You'll have to choose "View All" under Career (the second column) and scroll down a while longer, since it's been since February...but there are still three segments there!

In the last month, almost all of my clients and everyone else, including my neighbour ,have asked me if I've seen The Secret.  In the last week, almost everyone I know or have ever met (or so it seems) has signed up for Facebook.

What I find fascinating about both of these events is that each of these have tapped into something in our collective conciousness that we are ready to activate.  The Secret is a simple, easy-to-digest version of the Law of Attraction, a secret that hasn't been all that secret for many years.  Facebook is the next evolution of connection pages on the Internet - kind of like MySpace but less intimidating for people over 16.  It seems silly at first, but I have already had some wonderful reconnections with people I really like, as well as a rather profound one.

How Paula Poundstone Found Her Process - Wednesday, March 21, 2007 | Print |  E-mail

Creativity is not cut and dry.  It is a process - a very personal process - of finding out how to access this part of yourself and create something unique and tangible in the real world.

Just because someone else did it one way, doesn't mean that it's the right way for you.  The secret is learning what gets you to be creative - the setting, the subject, the timing, the motivation...uncover the secret (and honour it!) and you'll be able to create in flow.

My most recent great example of this is Paula Poundstone, a comedian I love.  She said that she was trying to write a book about herself but she couldn't because she couldn't think of what to say about herself that people would care about, so she was stuck.

Safe Passage in your Career Exploration - Monday, March 12, 2007 | Print |  E-mail

In the first episode I talk about how to think of Career Exploration like an adventure you're taking - but a big adventure like those early explorers of the sea.  Imagine going on a trip to the Antartica.  And not packing snacks.

You wouldn't do it would you?  Not even if you're going for a hike.  If you went for a day hike on a marked trail you'd take snacks.  So what would you take if you knew you were going hiking indefinitely?

That's what I like to call "safe passage".  It's not like you won't be facing challenges, obstacles and occasional rough seas where you won't see land for awhile.  It's about preparing to weather those rougher times by thinking ahead.  Packing good snacks if you will.

Here are some ideas for preparing "safe passage" on your upcoming career exploration:

And the winner is... Feb 26, 2007 | Print |  E-mail
Catch Karen on air February 26, 27 and 28 on ROB-TV's Workopolis Show hosted by Bruce Sellery!  A link to watching the shows online will be provided when available.

A blog in honour of the Oscars.

I stayed up far too late to watch and still had to wait until morning to see Marty Scorcese pick up his Oscar for the first time (thank god for the DVR...it makes television so civilized).  I was thinking about how a couple of nominees (Forest Whittaker is one that comes to mind, Ellen DeGeneres the host was another) talked about dreaming big dreams as young people...like they were once "just like you" and they dreamed big and now here they are on Oscar's stage accepting that award.

Now I don't want to be a downer here.  I think it's moving and beautiful when people like Forest share their difficult rise to the top (Ellen captured it beautifully when she suggested that winners should reference a childhood in the Bronx and  illiteracy since "audience's love that").  All of us like a good "rags to riches" story.

We love to have the sensation that anything is possible even if the odds are stacked against us, and that we too could one day reach the very pinnacle of our profession on a stage in a beautiful ballgown/stylish tux, with Jack in the front row, George Clooney behind us, and make everyone who ever knew us proud in that one shining moment.
